Dead or alive?

It is getting cold here! Which is not something I'm really excited about, cold weather is not my thing. Luckily, Texas doesn't have super, super cold Winters, so it's not so terrible. One thing I like about Winter is the trees. After all they've lost all their leaves, and look so bare and dead-like. They are still alive! Beneath the bark and down in the earth they are just as alive as ever, yet from what we can see they are dead. That's like how people see other people compared to how God sees people. We might see someone and think they are a terrible person, that they aren't worth it, that they are spiritually dead, to far gone to be saved, all because they look or act a certain way. We are so quick to judge other people that we don't even stop and look at ourselves! What do we look like to other people? Do we look dead too?

Comet ISON!

Comet ISON Brightens. Late last week Comet ISON began to wake up and now shines ten times brighter than it did just a week earlier. At magnitude 5.5 it has finally reached naked-eye levels from dark locations, according to observers around the world. (The lower the magnitude number, the brighter the object.) Even so, watching the phenomenon with binoculars and telescopes is the best way to witness this celestial body.
The sudden brightening is due most likely to vaporization of surface ice, leaving the comet sporting multiple tails— with the longest stretching some five million miles (eight million kilometers) out into space. That’s equal to more than 21 times the distance between Earth and the moon.
What will ISON do next is anyone’s guess, but all this activity makes it worth watching as it approaches its close encounter with the sun on November 28.
Look for the comet near the bright star Spica low in the southeast about an hour before your local sunrise. ISON is now visible from both Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

Nobody's Perfect

Here are parts of lyrics to a song that my sister and I just love. It talks about how Jesus cares about us even though we have imperfections. He believes in us more than we believe in ourselves, and most of all, He loves us to no end.

Sometimes I believe That I can do anything Yet other times I think I've got nothing good to bring But you look at my heart and you tell me That I've got all you seek And it's easy to believe Even though 'Cause I got a couple dents in my fender Got a couple rips in my jeans Try to fit the pieces together But perfection is my enemy On my own I'm so clumsy But on your shoulders I can see I'm free to be me.

Give praise

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. Psalm 100:4
Dancing Lady Orchid. Why is the orchid called the "Dancing Lady"?  Because she praises God every time the wind blows! If you watch it as it twirls in the wind she looks like she's dancing. Isn't that something!

To the fair we went!

As you might know we are homeschooled, so we took a field trip to our local fair yesterday. We learned a few things, and thanks to our mom, it looks like we are going to have a lot more in our curriculum. From bee keeping, to master gardening, to a certified naturalist.
But over all it was fun! We ate confetti popcorn, a heart attack on a plate (real greasy curly fries), dumdum lollipops, honey sticks, etc.
It was a great day. The weather was nice, it actually wasn't that hot, but we were going in and out of air conditioned buildings. So maybe that had something to do with it. But anyway, we saw different animals. There was a  huge, beautiful Brahman cow. Like when I say huge, I mean HUGE. And I'm not exaggerating....well maybe a little, but it was BIG. It was the biggest I've ever seen. Ok what else did we see..... Oh baby chickens! They were sooooo cute. Oh and my favorite, the bunnies! I found the perfect one. I named him/her Snickers!!! He/she was soooooooooooo cuuuuttttteeee!!!
Well that's just about all, I think.
We had fun. Hopefully we will be able go somewhere else soon.

Later!

Third day of Autumn!

Guess what?? It's the third day of Autumn!!!! Well I kinda missed the first, and second days, so I'm celebrating the third!
I'm soooooo glad summer is (somewhat) over. Here in Texas summer and winter seems to be the only two seasons. Either it's just cold or just plain HOT!
But thank God for some relief.
I love this time of the year. I get to wear my winter boots and my knitted sweaters and vests.
Well I not sure how it is in other states, but for you people in Texas, I hope you guys are enjoying the cool weather as much as I am.

Smile!

There was a very old lady who was mailing and old family bible to her brother in another part of the country. "Is there anything breakable in here?" asked the clerk."Only the ten commandments." answered the old lady.

Smile!

A minister parked his car in a no-parking zone in a large city because he was short of time and couldnt find a space with a meter. Then he put a note under the windshield wiper that read: "I have circled the block 10 times. If I dont park here, Ill miss my appointment. Forgive us our trespasses."
When he returned, he found a citation from a police officer along with this note"I've circled this block for 10 years. If I dont give you a ticket i'll lose my job. Lead us not into temptation".

Modesty inside and out.

..."you have a good many little gifts and virtues, but there is no need of parading them, for conceit spoils the finest genius. There is not much danger that real talent or goodness will be overlooked long, even if it is, the consciousness of possessing and using it well should satisfy one, and the great charm of all power is modesty."

Modesty Tip | How to find modest(and cute) clothes.

Here are a few ideas on how to make shopping for modest clothes not only easier, but enjoyable!!

  • Determine your parameters. Find you what kind of clothes are appropriate for your workplace, school, etc. Or even just everyday outfits. You might find a cute, modest dress, but it may not be allowed at your school, etc. So once you figure that out, you will know what kind of clothes you're looking for.
  • Layers can totally change an immodest outfit to a modest one. Shawls, tank tops/camisoles,shrugs,scarves(for necklines),cropped jackets, things that you might already have can revolutionize your wardrobe. If you don't already have some of those things, and need to go shopping for some, try to get colors that will match with more than one outfit...
  • Which brings me to say, color coordination matters a lot. Color-clashing is attention-drawing, aka eye-catching -which is something you try to avoid when dressing modestly. And besides, matching outfits look like you actually put effort into them, rather than just sticking your hand into your drawer and putting on whatever your hand touches. There is nothing wrong with bright colors, as long as they are pared properly.
  • Buy clothes that fit you. Not too small, not too big. Too small means no bending down, no reaching up, being careful how you sit, etc. Too big means baggy-ness, and things sagging in the wrong places and revealing too much.
  • If you don't feel comfortable in it, don't wear it!
  • When you see someone wearing something that looks modest, ask them where they got it, or where you can get something similar. This will give you ideas on where to find modest clothes.
  • Try shopping with friends who are also trying to dress modestly. Because it's no fun to stand there while your other friends look at the types of clothes they like, and then they stand there while you look at the types clothes you like. And so neither of you have fun, because you couldn't really shop together.
  • And..........Have fun with it!!

Modesty Tips | Swimwear

So can't wait to hit the beach huh?
Well why not try and hit it with a modest look. We are all beautiful, so we don't have to show much to prove it. Give the following a try. "Don't doubt it till you try it "

  • Find a swimsuit with a modest cut. Like for example, A one piece with full coverage or a tankini -that shows only a sliver of your midsection- can be modest and a little bit cuter at times than a one piece.
  • Try wearing a swim skirt over the bottom of your tankini/one piece. It can be very CUTE!
  • Of course we would like to stay away from bikinis. There's just NO modest cut to a bikini whatsoever.
  • If you own a bikini already, Well let's try and make it a little more modest.  Like try wearing a cover up over it.  Yeah, you're probably thinking, "well that defeats the purpose of wearing a bikini". Yeah I know it kinda does, but you will still be wearing it and and looking modest at the same time.
  • Oh, also when trying to make your favorite bikini modest try turning it into a tankini. You can easily look up "How to turn a bikini into a tankini". You will be surprised at what you can find.
  • Need some cover up ideas? Well, it can be anything really as long as it's covering up. For example: A swim skirt(or sarong), swim shorts, a tank top, a T-Shirt, caftans etc.
  • Well, I hope this will help you have a more modest trip to the beach,  Have a great summer!!

Modesty Tips | Summer Time Modesty

For one thing, layers really help. I know, I know, you're probably thinking, "Why is she talking about layers? It's summer!!". It IS possible to wear layers in summer WITHOUT melting. Yes it's summer, but just because it's hot out, doesn't mean it's skin-showing season. So here are some ideas on how to stay modest, while still keeping cool.

  • Add a light shrug, or shawl to a dress with small or no straps to cover those shoulders.
  • Wear a cami under a back-less shirts,shirts with low necklines,or crop t-shirts.
  • Choose shorts/skirts that are about knee-length.
  • Don't forget about capris!
  • Avoid snugly/skinny/huggy jeans. Of course you're going to get hot in them, they're practically sticking to you!
  • Polo shirts are great! They cover your shoulders, neckline, and midriff!! (providing you chose the right size)
  •  Belts, Belts,Belts!!!  Use them. Instead of walking around all day pulling your pants up, or being afraid to bend over for fear of  "too much" showing.
  • And last, but not least, test yourself in the mirror before going out. Twist, turn, lift up your hands, bend, sit, lean over, etc. Make sure nothing droops, sags, slides, drops, snaps,or raises to reveal more than you are comfortable with.
  • OK, this is the last one............Have a awesome summer!!!!

Basic Duct Tape Sunnies Case

This case is meant to be a very basic case. As in, I show you how to make the easy, simple case and you spice it up your own way.

You will need...
  • A sheet of paper. It doesn't matter what color.(printer, construction, or cardstock) The thicker the paper, the more stiff and sturdy the case.
  • Duct tape
  • Ruler

First cut a 8"by8" square from the paper.

Then cover both sides with duct tape.

Fold in half.

Now cut out two pieces of duct tape, one 4" long and the other 8" long.

Put the 4" piece along one of the short sides of  the case to close it off. This will be the bottom.

Put the 8" piece along the open, long side to close it off.

And that's it! Add a bow, or a button, or flower. Make the corners rounded instead of square.
Make a latch of some kind for closure. Add designs, or a strap/clip to dangle from your wrist or purse.
Do whatever you feel like!

Stacked Pinwheel Bow

This is a very cute hair accessory.

You'll Need:
                     Hot glue gun
                      Scissors
A lighter(heat source of some type)
                      Thread
                       Four Alligator clips
Ribbon: 3 5 inch pieces of 7/8 inch,
                   3 4 inch pieces of 5/8 inch,
2 4 inch pieces of different colored 5/8 inch,
                   4 3 inch pieces of 1/8 inch

              Have ribbon cut and ready...

Fold ribbon in half...

      Cut corner...

Unfold it, and it should look like this...

Do all of them like that.

Now take one and pinch it in the middle. Try to make a bow tie shape.

Now stack the rest on top and pinch...

Do this to all of them.

Take your thread and fish it through the alligator clip's hole and wrap it a round the ribbon and tie a knot.

Do that to all of them.

Put a dot of glue where I'm pointing.

And put the second biggest on top.

And keep doing it until all of them are stacked on top.

Glue your alligator clip on the back of your bow. You can line your alligator clip with ribbon or just leave it plain.

                           ALL DONE!!

Simple Skirt

OK, I decided to make this because I liked the material and it WAS a dress that was super big for me so I just wacked it off the bottom and made it into a skirt. But anyway this is kinda a re-style, but these instructions can be used to make a simple skirt starting with regular fabric.

You'll need:
Fabric
(just estimate about how much you need,
by making sure there is enough to wrap around you waist with a 1-2 inch seam allowance)
Scissors
Tailors chalk
Measuring Tape
Pins
1 inch width elastic
Ruler (optional)

First let's take measurements.Take the measusring tape and put it around the thickest part of your hips. Then measure how long you want it by measuring from waist down.

Now mark your hip size onto fabric...

Now mark down from the mark you just made.

Cut using the line for guidance.

Now measure how long you want your skirt. Mine was already pre hemmed, but if yours is not you will need to do this step and I will tell later into the tutorial when to hem.

OK, you should have something like this...

Ok mark 1&1/2 inch down for the top of your skirt. This will be the elastic casing.

Pin up the side...

sew...

Now fold over the casing. I sometimes iron it just to make it easier to work with.

Pin...

Sew, remembering to leave a opening big enough to thread elastic in.

Now, I normally hem it at this point.

Ok take the elastic around your waist to see what feels comfortable and mark.

      Now cut where you marked.

Take a safety pin. I like to use a mid sized one, but you can use whichever you like.

Start to thread in your elastic...

And scrunch it as you go

Go all the way around and through out the other side...

safety pin temporaily.

unpin,overlap and sew.

pull on waist the to make all elastic slide in.

     Sew it closed.

And you're done!!!!
You can style this with a belt or anything you like. That's what's cool about a simple skirt you can style it in many ways.
